Music Teacher of the Year

The other day I was in the car with my sons listening to Classic FM (the UK independent radio station for classical music lovers), when a reference was made to the Music Teacher of the Year Awards.

These awards – now in their 16th year – recognise hard-working and inspirational music teachers. There are five categories – Primary School Music Teacher, Secondary School Music Teacher, Peripatetic/Private Music Teacher, Special Education Needs Music Teacher and a Lifetime Achievement Award. The prizes – thousand of pounds worth of musical equipment and software – are provided by Yamaha and Avid.

If you wish to nominate someone for Music Teacher of the Year 2014, you should send in a nomination form before Wednesday October 1st (the deadline is 6pm on this date). Winners will be presented with their awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London during the Music for Youth Schools Prom (November 10th-12th, 2014).

I’m hoping  my sons were paying attention to the radio broadcast (rather than listening to pop music on their phones) and that they are busy filling in forms to nominate their kind, patient and long-suffering piano teacher … somehow I think it’s unlikely.
