Conference for Music Teachers

Included in the envelope with my piano students’ exam certificates (which I received a few days ago) was an ABRSM flyer advertising a forthcoming event. The conference – on ‘Musical progression and the role of assessment’ – may interest piano teachers who wish to meet others in a similar position. It also provides the opportunity to pick up a few tips from the musical experts.

The cost is £75 for nine hours of presentations and workshops and the conference will be held at The Grange Hotel, Tower Hill in London on October 18th.

Topics to be discussed include creative ideas for lessons, the art of owning your performance, the importance of rhythm, articulation and tempo in piano-playing and the subtleties of tone, balance and rubato. The presenters – which include ABRSM Chief Examiner John Holmes – will also introduce highlights from the new 2015 and 2016 piano syllabus. (Graded ABRSM books are available from Musicroom.com).
