Musical Google Doodle

I wonder how many piano teachers have been able to resist trying out the musical puzzle set by Google today – I certainly couldn’t.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the Google Doodle mixes up pieces of the scores of four well-known Beethoven works – his Fifth Symphony, Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata and Ode to Joy. Then you have to put the notes in the order they should be played. I’m relieved to say I managed to get all four correct – although not as quickly as I should have done.

This has given me an idea though. If I can get around to doing some photocopying and cutting up, I’m sure my pupils would benefit from – and enjoy – rearranging mixed up sections of tunes they play – and it would certainly help boost their reading skills.

Apparently the reason why Google has chosen a Beethoven doodle today is because it’s thought to be the composer’s 245th birthday.
