From School Pupils to Home Pupils

As it’s approaching the end of the school year, it’s worth bearing in mind that if you teach any year 6 students in primary school, you may well lose them when they move up to high school.

I make sure I write to the parents of all my year 6 pupils, asking if they would like their son or daughter to start lessons in my home instead. Or – if I have no suitable time slots available – whether they would like to be put on a waiting list for lessons in my home.

So far, at least four of the pupils I have taught at school have opted to continue lessons with me at home, rather than to start lessons with another teacher at their new school, so it was definitely worth writing the letter to their parents.
