Students working towards higher grade ABRSM music exams, may find a new app helpful.
The ABRSM has recently introduced the Aural Trainer app for grades 6-8 and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It includes all the tests required for the exams – musical memory, sight-singing, cadences, chords and modulations and identifying/describing features in a piece of music. There is also a Lite version of the aural trainer – which is free to download.
Personally, I’m not sure that all the technology in the world would ever enable me to sing a series of notes with any degree of accuracy or musicality … but I guess anything’s worth a try.
