The lead story in today’s news is the death of 90-year-old music producer Sir George Martin – best known for his work with the Beatles … and less known for his piano-playing skills.
Martin had piano lessons as a young boy but only eight of them, as there were disagreements between the piano teacher and his mother (according to The Beatles Bible) – after which, Martin decided to teach himself to play.
However, he did go on to have more formal musical training as – in 1947 – he attended the Guildhall School of Music, where he studied piano and oboe.
Although he never really rated himself as a pianist, Martin can be heard playing piano on some of the Beatles hits including In My Life.
