Pianists Suffer for their Art

I recently played the keyboard for a sing-a-long at my parents’ anniversary party. I practised for several weeks before the event and – as I am not used to playing keyboard – (to be honest, I don’t even play much piano these days) – this took its toll on my thumbs. My left one in particular was aching and I had to take a break from practising and wear a splint at night.

Great idea Mr Cristofori!

When I switched on my computer this morning, I was delighted to see a man playing the piano as today’s Google doodle. I pressed ‘play’, turned on my speakers and – hearing Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring – assumed it must be J.S.Bach’s birthday … or maybe the anniversary of his death.
