Ten Pieces for Children

Today sees the launch of Ten Pieces – a BBC initiative aimed at bringing classical music to primary school children.

Celebrities, orchestras, singers and musical experts will get together for this project which includes a week of free cinema screenings for schools across the country. The Ten Pieces include rousing and familiar tunes such as the first movement from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Mars from Holst’s The Planets Suite.

Children will be asked to respond creatively to the music they hear and Ten Pieces will culminate in July 2015 (the end of the school year) with a major event showcasing the children’s work.
